I started into triathlon a few years ago when my body was starting to feel beat up from running. My brother and I did our first one together, the Sullivan sprint in Illinois. I made lots of newbie mistakes, including taking at least five minutes to change clothes and put on my mp3 player! We got caught in a downpour on the bike but crossed the finish line feeling a great sense of accomplishment. I’ve been trying to learn and grow ever since. The tri club has been a great way for me to connect with others of similar interests, pick up some great tips, and find training partners.

What is your favorite and least favorite gel flavor? Peanut butter and salted caramel are great. Anything chocolate / espresso is nasty. I say if you can stomach that, you’re not working hard enough!

What is your favorite place in or around St. Louis to train? Running in Queeny Park. As one of my friends says, when you finish a run there, you feel like a warrior.

What is the worst food you’ve ever tried in training or racing and why? Anything Heed. It just tastes horrible in my opinion.

What is your favorite thing about triathlon? For me it’s all about setting a plan and then carrying it through. I love entering a race knowing that I’ve done all of the work and now I can just enjoy.
