Dana Harman

I am from the east coast and moved to St. Louis in 2015. I enjoy my career as a pharmacist, but will happily retire when I get hired as a ‘professional organizer & dog-petter.’ I got into distance running after being inspired by the dean of our pharmacy school. He spoke passionately about marathons and I quickly caught the bug. My father-in-law is equally passionate about cycling & set me up with a bike. Figured at that point, I just needed to learn how to swim!

When/Where was your first triathlon?
Fenton Triathlon in 2015. I made the crew laugh when I changed into dry clothes after the swim. And changed again after the bike. Turns out, that’s not normal for sprint triathlons.

What is your favorite race?
Bike MS is my favorite event. Volunteers always make the rest stops wild. It’s awesome that a charity ride can be so much fun.

What is your favorite thing about triathlon?
There is a lot of variety with triathlons & injuries are less of an issue during training. Knee problem? Go for a swim! Shoulder hurts? Go for a run! Don’t want to miss the newest episode of the Bachelor? Hop on the trainer!

What is the one piece of tri-geek gear you can’t live without?
Fancy Garmin triathlon watch. If it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen.

Tip for new (or veteran) triathletes?
Learn to ride without chamois butter. Life is simpler once you’re used to it.
