We spend hours swimming, biking, and running, but how much time do you devote to practicing your transitions? I’ve heard many new triathletes over the years joke about how they initially thought their transition time doesn’t count towards overall race time. Well it does! And it’s very easy to lose time in your transitions if you don’t have a well-rehearsed plan to get in and get out.

We’ll bring the Club’s bike racks and have experienced Club members demo their transition area set-up, and because each race distance has unique needs we’ll try to represent all of them. These sessions are open to Club members of ALL experience levels and goal race distances. There’s a lot to learn in seeing how others set up their transition space, so join us!

There’s two transitions to practice. T1 is swim to bike, and T2 is bike to run. So to practice you’ll need to bring the gear you expect to be racing with, at a minimum: goggles, bike, bike shoes, helmet, run shoes, socks. Additional gear can include sunglasses, race number belt, fuel, small towel, and whatever else you need.

Please note, a smooth transition is all about practice and efficiency. You’ll see these at races, but you really shouldn’t need buckets, a chair, big towels, a buffet bar of food, your gear bag, post race clothes, etc. This not only takes up space in your transition, but can also take space from your transition neighbor.

We’ll meet for this clinic on the grass near the tents for the open water swim.
