Ryan Elliott

I’m proud to serve as the Club’s 2017 Frozen Buns Run Race Director, which is the Club’s largest fundraiser/revenue generator of the year. I’m impressed and amazed by all of the Club members—such a diverse, fun-loving, inspirational and inclusive bunch of athletes! In this position I have met many more Club members and learned about your experiences and dreams. In the role of RD I am working hard to to put on a superior race experience for all of the runners, which in turn will help the Club continue to provide amazing opportunities. As far as my multisport activities, I enjoy and race the tri distances from sprint through the half-iron distance—I really enjoy running and will jump into most any running event from 5Ks through the marathon distance. I’m organized, dedicated and someone you can count on—the old adage that success if 99% perspiration fits me well. If you’ve made it this far and still want to know more, you can read more about me here: https://www.stlouistriclub.com/featured-member-ryan-elliott/

When/Where was your first triathlon?
Sullivan Triathlon, in Sullivan, IL
What is your favorite and least favorite gel flavor?
I go for GU orange or vanilla, and like to mix it up between caffeine and non-caffeinated during a longer event. I’m not too picky so don’t really have a least favorite gel–definitely prefer thin over thick. FREE is my favorite flavor.
What is your favorite race?
That’s easy if I can pick two–the New Town Triathlon and the Walt Disney World Marathon
What is the most challenging moment you’ve had during a race?
Ugh, I have one triathlon DNF. The swim was rocky and cold, I was cramping up and my goggles were fogging over. I was thankful just to make it back to shore. I got on my bike and inexplicably blew out a sidewall on my tire within the first couple of miles and had to walk my bike back to transition and call it a day. Nothing heroic came from that…
What is your favorite place in or around St. Louis to train?
I love running Creve Coeur Lake.
What is the worst food you’ve tried in training or racing and why?
Overdid it at Chevy’s two nights before a marathon and ended up in a hospital with terrible stomach cramps. Not sure if the two things were related, but I did overdo it on their delicious and bottomless chips and salsa.
