President: Dale Cira
As
President for 2012 I am really looking forward to helping the Board and Coordinators and members continue to be
the best multi-sport organization in the St. Louis area. Turns out I
have the distinction of being the second longest standing member of the
Club…going on 10 years or so. Clearly, I love this stuff! I competed in
my first duathlon way back in the mid-1990’s in Hillsboro, IL and have
since competed in well over a hundred duathlons and triathlons since
then. I'd like to think I can offer something after racing everything
from sprints to Ironman and the occasional century ride and marathon for
so many years. I will continue to invest the time, sweat and anxiety
into constantly improving our Club and to helping our members to achieve
their goals. I appreciate the opportunity to be one of the
representatives on the Board. So, please keep your ideas coming and let
us know what we can do to give you what you need to succeed. dcira@stlouistriclub.com

2012
will mark my fourth year with the club. My foray into triathlons was
like many others coming into the sport, as an injured runner who was
lost and stir-crazy at the prospects of weeks without running. Bought my
first road bike at Big Shark Bicycle Co. in 2008 and the rest is
history. The ultimate goal is to finish an iron-distance triathlon, not
quite there yet, but I'm trying! I've enjoyed meeting and training with
many of the club members and thoroughly love the camaraderie at group
events and at the races. I'm very excited for the future of the club and
look forward to a wonderful year. itani@stlouistriclub.com First ever multisport race? Ballwin Triathlon 2008 Proudest PR/accomplishment in the sport? 12 donuts consumed at 2010 Tour de Donut Favorite gel flavor? Gu Strawberry Banana Least favorite? Gu Espresso Love. Awful!
Vice President: Emily Korsch
I joined the club in late 2009 in order to join the group for the USAT Club National Championships in Oklahoma City. That year was my first season racing triathlon and my appreciation for the sport has continued to grow as I meet more people through the club who share the same motivation! I also enjoy competing in the off-road side of life, in cyclocross, adventure races and orienteering meets. ekorsch@stlouistriclub.com
Favorite place to train in StL? Forest Park Shaw Park outdoor 50m pool. Favorite race? Pere Marquette Endurance Trail Run. Favorite gel flavor? Hammer Apple.
I started coming around the club in 2008 and took my time getting
into the sport. I did several short distance races in 2009 and 2010,
with finally getting comfortable at the sprint distance in the 2011
season. In 2012 I am taking the big plunge and tackling my first
IronMan. In fact, I will do all 4 race distances in 2012. I really
became addicted to triathlon and gained a deep appreciation for the club
by participating the 2010 Mentoring Program. Through the Mentoring
Program I not only learned about various details of the sport, but I
also learned the value of being around such great teammates and athletes
(many of whom have become friends and training partners!). One of my
most favorite experiences in triathlon is showing up at group training
or a race and seeing a familiar face that I've shared a tri experience
with. I can only get that with the Tri Club! rmetcalf@stlouistriclub.com
Favorite Nuun flavor? Tri-Berry Least favorite thing to be handed on the race course? Heed Favorite tri challenge? Hills on a bike Favorite places to train in StL? Tilles Park, Forest Park, and Wildwood SBR weakness? Running
Secretary: Tara Bakker
My love for triathlon began in 2009 when I entered into my first sprint. I loved it because it gave me a different perspective on racing from what my running background had taught me. Coming off that first triathlon and swimming the backstroke/sidestroke, I quickly learned that I needed to learn how to swim freestyle! I went on to sign up for my first half ironman in 2010 riding on a tank of a road bike and having just gotten aero bars and clip-in pedals a month before my race. In 2011, I signed up for my first full ironman and I am completely hooked on long distance triathlon now. Bring on the long group training rides and runs! I also love any other mentally and physically challenging sports like marathons, hiking in the mountains, backcountry backpacking, and I will sign up for my first 50 miler in 2012!
As a member of the club since late 2010, I quickly developed a lot of friendships and knowledge from other club members. At races, it is amazing to see all these athletes cheering you on while you're all racing together. I look forward to helping out and giving back in any way I can during 2012 and for years to come! tbakker@stlouistriclub.com
Favorite places to train in STL: Forest Park for running and Columbia, IL for riding Most favorite gel flavor: GU Vanilla and GU Mint Chocolate Least favorite gel flavor: Hammer Banana (Augh!) Favorite thing about triathlon: Cheering on my teammates and fellow racers and the camaraderie that comes with the sport
At-Large: Kyle Bradley I joined the St. Louis Tri Club over 3 years ago and began training for my first 70.3 race. Since then I have competed in many triathlons including my first Ironman in Louisville. This year, as a Member at Large, I want to help others get the same great opportunities I have had throughout my membership. When people ask me about the Tri Club, I tell them that the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. I want to challenge everyone to make the most of the STL Tri Club! I am an aspiring home bike mechanic, trail runner, and hill climber, and believe enduralytes can cure anything. kbradley@stlouistriclub.com Favorite place to run: Castlewood Favorite place to ride: Anywhere near highway 109 Favorite post race drink: Chocolate Muscle Milk
At-Large: Megan Killian
I've been a life-long runner, but my passion for multisport bloomed
when I bought my first road bike in 2008. I signed up for Ironman
Wisconsin soon thereafter, and have been reveling in long course ever
since. I love the community and friendships I've made through endurance
sports, and the long hours of swimming, biking, and running have made it
easy to maintain my adventurous spirit, especially when I am surrounded
by adventurous people! I am looking forward to exploring more of my
speedy side at some shorter tris in 2012! mkillian@stlouistriclub.com
Favorite place to train in St. Louis? Riding in WestCo
Favorite recovery food: Dill pickles and beer (of the gluten free variety) Tip for new (and veteran) triathletes:
Volunteer at a race. Every athlete needs to see what goes on "behind
the scenes"- it helps to better appreciate their own race experiences!
