Extra tidbits:

  • If you can’t visit the race site/course beforehand, try using Google Earth/Google Street View to preview a bike or run course.
  • Asked to choose a favorite between short course and long course racing, she admitted to a preference for the short course non-drafting stuff! Her reason: you can go fast and not have to micromanage your nutrition 🙂

Swim Across America

Swim Across America is an organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for cancer research. The St. Louis event is scheduled for Saturday, August 27th out at Innsbrook resort. Distances available are 1/2 mile, 1.2 mile and 2.4 mile. All funds raised stays local and goes toward the Siteman Cancer Center. JP created a St. Louis Tri Club team. Any interested swimmer can sign up through the event’s website, find the created team and join it. Each swimmer in the team will raise their own funds.  Click on the flyer linked below for more info including contact info if you have any additional questions.

Sunset Hills Triathlon

Club member (and race director) Teresa Johnson was on hand to tell us about the race which features a 300 yd pool swim, a 11.8 mile bike and a 3 mile run. Race date in 2016 is Sunday, August 28th.  Sunset Hills Triathlon is part of the 2016 MuniTri series – an eight race series of local races put on by seven different local municipalities. Don’t forget about the club discount if you’re interested in racing. Thanks to Teresa also for providing a free entry as the monthly raffle prize!

Annual Club Picnic

Our annual club picnic is scheduled for Sunday, June 26th from 1-4pm. Please RSVP so we know approximately how many are attending. Location is new for this year, Creve Coeur Park Heldman picnic shelter accessible from Marine Drive. (Google Map) Food and drink will be provided. Please bring a side dish to share. Family is welcome, please bring them too! There will be fun and games and a group photo. If you have ideas for fun games to play, contact our social coordinators. Volunteers will also be needed to help set up and clean-up after.

IronBrick Coach Paul Schon spoke to the club briefly about all of IronBrick’s services and introduced club members Julie Christy and Dylan Gray as assistant coaches specializing in yoga/pilates and swimming respectively.

 

Next (and future) Meeting(s)

**No meeting in June** The annual club picnic will take the place of our normal monthly meeting.

July’s featured speaker will be Coach Paul Schon of IronBrick Training. August’s speaker will be Elena Friedman from Athletico Physical Therapy.

Looking ahead, author and coach, Matt Fitzgerald will be coming to speak for our September meeting. We have secured a location which will be the auditorium at MICDS. There will be an opportunity to purchase his books. More details on that to come.

Our October meeting will be a Q&A coaching panel featuring our three sponsor coaches, Paul Schon of IronBrick Training, Jennifer Meyer of TriSmart Training Systems, and Samantha Murphy of Evolve Coaching Systems.
